A lot of machine countersinking on the stiffeners today. The firewall is also dimpled with flush head on the forward side.

I want to try different primer on the fuselage, and I prefer gray color. So I scuffed and cleaned all firewall stiffeners, gussets after deburring and machine countersunk them. I sprayed some Kylon gray primer on them. I waited 4 hours before starting riveting. The primer is not self-etching, and I didn't etching the aluminum before priming, the primer is easy to scrape off compared to the DupliColor self-etching primer. Since the firewall is not a primer critical area (many builders don't prime this area at all), I think it should be ok. I'd better find a better gray primer.

Anyway, after priming, I started riveting. I didn't use the back riveting method, just use the flat rivet set with my rivet gun. It is not that hard. The problem of using back riveting is I couldn't find a right plate or wood block to raise the back riveting plate to the right height because the firewall flange is bent toward forward. Got most rivets done, will finish them tomorrow.

two 1/2" holes are drilled to fire wall for brake line fitting, BOELUB is used to drill steel firewall

I would like to try this primer for fuselage, it turned out easier to scrap off than self-etching prime, but overall it is not too bad

Firewall parts are cleaned using acetone

Primed

Firewall dimpled

Primed parts are clecoed for riveting

As you can see, I used rivet gun to rivet firewall

Rivet gun can give pretty good results here
