Started taking the fuselage apart.

I found one mistake I did yesterday. when I put the bottom skin back for misc. final drilling, I put the bottom skin sides outside of the F770 side skin. So, when I countersunk the #12 holes for #10 screw, the whole sequency was not right. I hate myself for that kind of mistake. After half hour of frustration and cursing, I calmed down to think about fix. Actually the fix is quite easy. Since the side skin is not countersunk in full depth (the bottom skin is), I will dimple the side skin, so the dimple can sit in the machine countersunk bottom skin. This should work just right. But still, I need to be very careful reading the drawing.

Also, I realized I haven't drilled any holes for the F7114 gusset, the instruction didn't call out any drilling, but at fuselage, instruction does not tell you every step, a lots of contruction you need to figue it out yourself. I will read other builders' site and see when most builders will drill these holes.

Another thing I did today is to try out paint. I bought two bottles of Rust-Oleum metalic paint from Lowers. I tried it on the bottom skin interior. the color is ok, but not exactly what I like. I choose the bottom skin to try because if I don't like the paint, it won't bother me much since I will use floor carpet anyway.

Update on 9/11/12: I emailed Van's about the countersunk hole with side skin and bottom skin in a wrong order, and my fix. Van replied back saying " dimpling to countersunk hole will work quite well".
